CG-52 Bunker Hill

inv_spacer.gif (807 bytes)

USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) is a  Ticonderoga class guided missile cruiser of the United States Navy.  The Bunker Hill was the first Ticonderoga class cruiser to be equipped with the Mk. 41 VLS (Vertical Launch System) in place of the previous ships' Mk. 26 twin-arm missile launchers, greatly improving the flexibility and firepower of the ships by allowing them to fire BGM-109 Tomahawk missiles. The primary mission of the USS Bunker Hill is to operate with aircraft carrier battle groups in extreme threat environments well into the 21st century. The purpose of the ship is to detect, classify and track hundreds of potential targets simultaneously in the air, on the surface, and under the sea. It can destroy targets using a variety of weapons: ship and helicopter launched torpedoes, deck guns, surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missiles, rapid-fire close-in weapons, and electronic jammers and decoys.

Eric Bertelsen of Homeport Model Ships will be building this model.  No kit will be used for the construction of this model.  For the hull Eric will be using a 1/96th scale fiberglass hull and fittings from The Scale Shipyard

For the superstructure, Eric will be using laser and metal etch I got from  HomePort Model Ships.
HomePort Model Ships supplies fully detailed lasers and etch for your next models. Their laser cuts are professionally done with the care and have the same details that are on the real ships. Fitting positions are clearly marked on each part, and vents are scribed into the walls, and windows are cut out as well.

The objective will be to not only have this model in the water by Spring 2008, but also to document it's construction.
