Hull Construction |

Cut a hatch support from a 1/8"x3/8" basswood
strip to fit under the deck, at the PORT (left looking forward)
side of the hatch opening between F4 and the transom. Glue
this piece to the underside of the deck with CA, so that it
protrudes into the hatch opening 1/8", as shown.

Use a pencil and a ruler to mark a line 3/16" in
from the long side of the hatch, as shown. Be sure that
you make this line on the UNDERSIDE of the hatch.

Apply Slow CA to the hatch tongue. Align it with the
pencil line on the hatch so that it is centered between the ends
of the hatch, as shown. Press the two parts together.

Interior Details
Fitting and installing the
hatch frames, hatches, motor, antenna and steering guide tubes
now, while you have access to the interior of the hull, is much
easier than trying to install these parts after the hull is
planked. Also, some of the interior wood parts should be
waterproofed. This would be impossible to do after the planking
is in place.
There are two removable deck hatches on this boat. The rear deck
hatch gives access to the rudder post and steering linkage. The
cockpit deck hatch gives access to the battery compartment,
between F2 and F3. For reasons of clarity, neither one of these
hatches is shown in detail on the plan. However, their locations
are. The following instructions and illustrations detail the
construction of both hatches.
Rear Deck Hatch
Lay a straight edge along the indented line and
marks locating the rear hatch. Cut through the deck with
an X-Acto® knife.

Then, carefully slip the knife blade into the joints between the
hatch and transom, and the hatch and F4, to cut the hatch free
from these parts.
