Drive & Power Installation:

Turn the nut all the way down on the threaded end of the prop shaft.  Screw the prop onto the shaft and tighten it against the nut.

Roger's Notes:  I removed the mold marks and painted the prop before I attached it to the prop shaft.

Hold the nut with a pair of pliers while tightening the prop with your fingers.

Use the flat side of a knife (I used a small syringe that I got at my local hobby shop) to pack grease or Vaseline® into both ends of the stuffing box. Also, smear grease over the prop shaft. Then, block the front end of the stuffing box with your finger and push the prop shaft back into the stuffing box. Clean the grease from the unthreaded end of the prop shaft and re-install the shaft collar.

Roger's Notes:  Before you insert the prop shaft, place a paper towel under the stuffing box inside the hull.  This will catch any Vaseline® that will exit the stuffing box when the prop shaft is installed.  After you fill the stuffing box with Vaseline®,  cover the inside end of the stuffing box with a finger, then start to slide the prop shaft into the stuffing box.  Slide the prop shaft inside the stuffing box until you fill pressure on your finger.  Then remove your finger from the inside end of the stuffing box and allow the prop shaft to push out the extra Vaseline® onto the paper towel.

Position the shaft collar so the prop shaft turns freely without moving back and forth in the stuffing box. Then, tighten the set screw on the collar.

In this section the motor, universal, batteries and electrical components will be installed and set up to run. The following steps assume you are using a MEPS-III motor.  Midwest no longer manufactures the MEPS-II motor system.  The steps below show a "generic" installation of components.   If you are using different components, follow the directions that come with those products.

Prop Shaft & Prop

You will need the prop from the Accessory Bag to complete this sub-assembly.

You will also need about 1/2 ounce of automotive grease or Vaseline®, not supplied with the kit.

Remove the masking tape from both ends of the stuffing box. Loosen the set screw on the shaft collar and slip the collar off of the prop shaft. Pull the shaft out of the stuffing box.

Use a flat file to file a flat spot on the last 3/8" of the unthreaded end of the prop shaft, as shown.
