Center the hatch on the hatch opening. Mark the hinge locations on the cabin roof. These marks are to be directly under the pivot point of each hinge, as shown. Drill 1/16" holes through the roof at these locations.

Insert the hinges into the holes in the cabin roof until the hatch rests on the hatch openings. Bond the hinges to the hatch and cabin roof with CA. Be careful not to get any CA on the pivots of the hinges. Use a Sharp X-Acto® knife to trim the excess hinge length flush with the underside of the cabin roof.

Roger's Notes:  For my hatch, I made a handle from 1/16" brass rod.  After I cut and bent it, I drilled 1/16" holes in the hatch to accept the handle.  I then painted it flat black and then glued it in place when the paint had dried.  The hinges where painted flat back after these pictures were taken.

Cabin Roof Hatch Hinges

In operation, it will be necessary to open the cabin roof hatch to allow cooling air to circulate around the motor. This sub-assembly will show you how to hinge the cabin roof hatch so that it is functional.

You will need the parts illustrated below to complete this sub-assembly. They are in the Accessory Bag.

In addition, you will need the previously built and finished cabin roof and cabin roof hatch.

Lay the hatch over the drawing of the cabin roof hatch on the plan. Mark the location of the hinges on the edge of the hatch. Note that the hinges are to be parallel with the wood grain, as shown here and on the plan. Carefully drill 1/16"  holes 3/8" into the hatch as shown.
