Use the remaining pieces of mahogany from the toe rails, and one more 24" piece of mahogany to make the skids. The skids should butt against the rear coaming toe rail and end flush with the transom. Glue the skids to the deck, at the positions shown on the plan. Note that the skids on each side of the hatch opening are flush with the edge of the opening, as shown.

I made a spacer from scrap wood.  I used this spacer to align the skids.

Here the skids are glued in place.  After the glue had dried I trimmed them flush with the transom molding that I had already applied.  You will apply your in Step 208.

The finished skids trimmed and sanded.

Toe Rails and Skids

You will need seven (7) pieces of 3/32" x 3/32" x 24" mahogany from Bag Number Two (#2) to complete this sub-assembly.   These should have been painted or covered with clear urethane prior to this step.

Use a sanding block to bevel the end of one piece of mahogany to fit against the stem head, when it is aligned flush with the deck edge. Apply Slow CA to the first inch of this piece and glue it flush with the deck edge, as shown. Continue applying Slow CA to the deck edge and bending the mahogany strip into position in short sections.

Roger's Notes: For my model, I changed the rails, skids and moldings a bit from the kit directions.  I will show what the kit manual shows and what I did on my model.  Also remember I removed the stem head from my model.

Butt another piece of mahogany against the first piece to continue the toe rail back to the transom. Use a razor saw to carefully cut this piece flush with the transom.

Roger's Notes: Here a some pictures of my boat.  These pictures show how I installed the toe rails on my model.  Use a razor saw to cut all of the mahogany strips.

Repeat Steps #199 and #200 to apply the toe rail to the opposite side. Use the cut off piece of mahogany from Step #200 to continue the toe rail on that side.

Use three pieces of mahogany to cut and fit the toe rails for the cabin and coamings. Glue them in place with Slow CA, as shown.
