Shape the forward part of the keel with a sanding block so that it transitions from a point on the bow to a flat edge along the bottom, as shown.

Use a sanding block to trim the rear portion of the keel flush with the bottom sheeting, as shown.

Inspect the outside of the hull for smoothness and shape in preparation for fiber glassing.






 


Bow Blocks

Use a plane and sanding block to shape and trim the bow blocks flush with the balsa sheeting and the keel, as shown.

Use a plane and sanding block to shape a radius at the corners of the side and bottom sheeting and the bow blocks. The correct shape of the radius is shown in the frame section drawings on the right side of the plan. From F2 to the bow, the radius is so slight that the bow blocks and sheeting should appear to have a continuous curve from the deck to the keel, as shown.

Roger's Notes: Due to the sharp angle of the bottom sheeting near F2, it is possible that the edges may fray or leave gaps between the side sheeting. If this is the case with your model, these gaps should be filled with vinyl spackle or wood filler and sanded smooth.
